Tour Overview
The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path stretches a staggering 299km along the South Wales coastline from St Dogmaels in the north to Amroth in the south. The area was first designated a National Park in 1952 with the famous path itself becoming the first national trail in Wales when it opened in 1970. The trail makes for incredibly scenic hiking, with contrasting landscapes ranging from the wild remote headlands of the north to the legendary castle ruins and rock sea pillars of the south. Dotted along the coastline you'll find traditional fishing villages barely touched by tourism, tiny hidden coves and pristine sandy beaches. This twin centre walking holiday incorporates some of the best walking on both the northern and southern sections of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path but without the more challenging hiking of the northernmost trails. Your base for the first 3 nights is pretty St David's, Britain's smallest city and home to the impressive 12th Century St David's cathedral and Gothic Bishops' Palace. The area boasts some of the most magnificent coastal scenery in Pembrokeshire and you will discover its immaculate beaches, tranquil harbour villages and rugged cliffs, with a good chance of spotting colonies of guillemots, razorbills and cormorants. There's also the option to take a boat trip out to the nearby islands - including Skomer, the natural habitat of the area's renowned puffins! Then you head to Pembrokeshire's southern shores and vibrant Tenby, with its gorgeous sandy beaches, offshore 19th century fort and pastel coloured esplanade. Your walks here take you over undulating clifftop trails, passing Norman castles, towering sea stacks and unspoilt bays. Your accommodation in St David's and Tenby is family run and in prime locations, with comfortable ensuite rooms as standard. Full Welsh breakfasts are included daily to set you up for a full day's walking whilst evening meals have been left to you so you can choose from the wealth of superb pubs and restaurants available locally.
