Day 1 : Depart London

Location: London

Make your way to London Heathrow for your flight to Sri Lanka.

Day 2 : Arrive Negombo

Location: Negombo

Accommodation Name: Negombo, Jetwing Lagoon

Touchdown at Bandaranaike International Airport, located near the charming fishing village of Negombo. On arrival, you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel, where you will enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 3 : Negombo, Sigiriya

Location: Negombo

Accommodation Name: Two Nights, Sigiriya, Aliya Resort and Spa

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

Today, venture to the World Heritage-listed Dambulla Cave Temple. Home to over 150 incredible Buddha paintings and statues, Dambulla is the largest and most well-preserved cave-temple complex in Sri Lanka. Explore the five sanctuaries, each containing ornate statues and ancient art relating to the life of Buddha. Later this afternoon, arrive at Aliya Resort and Spa, your home for the next two nights. Tonight, savour a special Sri Lankan Welcome Dinner.

Day 4 : Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya

Location: Negombo

Following breakfast, head to the World Heritage site of Polonnaruwa for a tour of its ancient city. Once a prosperous religious centre, it was the second capital of Sri Lanka after the destruction of Anuradhapura in AD993. Explore the fascinating ruins and discover a world of archaeological treasures. Have lunch in Polonnaruwa before returning to the hotel. This afternoon, you may wish to embark on a safari to see the herds of elephants in Minneriya National Park (additional expense).

Day 5 : Sigiriya, Kandy

Location: Negombo

Accommodation Name: Two Nights, Kandy, Amaya Hills

This morning, visit the World Heritage-listed ancient rock fortress of Sigiriya. Rising 200 metres above the central plains, this spectacular geological formation was once home to an ancient civilisation. If you’re feeling active, climb the open staircases to the top of Sigiriya and take in the impressive views at its summit. Alternatively, visit the Sigiriya Museum. Take a guided tour of the area before departing for Kandy enjoying a lunch enroute.



Later today, you will arrive in the historic city of Kandy. Depart on a guided tour of Kandy’s major sights, including the World Heritage-listed Temple of the Tooth. Later, experience a traditional Sri Lankan cultural performance featuring lively drummers and energetic dancers performing music and dance developed in the courts of local kings.

Day 6 : Kandy

Location: Negombo

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

Today, you will visit the Royal Botanic Gardens Peradeniya. Home to over 4,000 species of exotic flora and fauna, the gardens are renowned for their collection of beautiful orchids. You may choose to spend the rest of the day in Kandy exploring at your leisure or simply return to your hotel for an afternoon of relaxation.

Day 7 : Kandy, Nuwara Eliya

Location: Negombo

Accommodation Name: Nuwara Eliya, Jetwing St Andrew's

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

This morning, journey onwards to the lush, green hills of Nuwara Eliya. En route, visit one of the many famous tea plantations and factories. Here, learn all about the traditions behind tea making while you sample some of the world’s finest Ceylon tea. This afternoon, take in a tour of Nuwara Eliya, often referred to as ‘Little England’ as it was favoured by the British civil servants as a summer retreat and is home to several colonial buildings.

Day 8 : Nuwara Eliya, Yala National Park

Location: Negombo

This morning, head to Nanu Oya to board a train for the scenic journey to Ella (subject to availability). As you travel, take in the beautiful hill country. Later, continue to Yala where you’ll check in to your hotel.

Day 9 : Yala National Park

Location: Negombo

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

Board a jeep and venture out on an early morning safari in Yala National Park. The park is home to over 32 species of mammals including elephants and sloth bears. Its star attraction, however, is the spectacular Sri Lankan leopard. Spend the afternoon at your leisure, or head out on an optional afternoon safari for a chance to see more of the park’s wonderful wildlife (additional expense).

Day 10 : Yala National Park, Galle, Kosgoda

Location: Negombo

Accommodation Name: Two Nights, Sheraton Kosgoda Turtle Beach Resort

Set off early for your Insider Experience. Journey to Galle, stopping en route for lunch. A fortified city, Galle is steeped in history. Here you’ll depart on a walking tour and see many of its major landmarks. Journey through the Dutch-influenced streets of the World Heritage-listed old town, observing the unique architecture and admiring the fort’s historic gate and iconic lighthouse. Continue to your beach-side hotel in Kosgoda.

Day 11 : Kosgoda

Location: Negombo

Meals Included: Breakfast

The day is free for you to enjoy at your relaxing beach-front hotel. You may like to join an optional tour to the Lunuganga Estate, the country home of renowned Sri Lankan architect, Geoffrey Bawa (additional expense).

Day 12 : Kosgoda, Colombo

Location: Negombo

Accommodation Name: Colombo, Cinnamon Grand Colombo

Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner

After breakfast, depart for the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo. Take a guided tour of the city and see many of its sights including bustling Pettah bazaar, one of the oldest Buddhist temples, Walukarama, and the neo-baroque Old Parliament building. You will also get to explore the city further on an exhilarating tuk tuk ride.

Day 13 : Colombo, Depart Negombo, Arrive London

Your holiday comes to an end this morning with a transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport for your onward flight. Arrive back in London this evening.

  • What documents will I receive before I travel?

    Travel Documents are sent to you 2-3 weeks prior to your departure. Certain information may be required to help finalise your booking.

  • What are Freedom of Choice Touring options?

    For APT tour programs, you may have the opportunity to select a Freedom of Choice Touring activity. These options are at no additional cost, and confirmed whilst on tour. The Tour Directors will guide you through all of the available options, and assist with booking these for those who are interested. Your brochure or our website will feature Freedom of Choice options for some tours - where applicable. Should time permit, passengers may be given the opportunity to experience a second option by purchasing that option.

  • Where do I join the tour?

    Most of our itineraries commence with a transfer from the airport, or a meet and greet on Day 1. There may be times recommended for you to fly, which your Sales consultant will provide you. If you choose to fly in a few days prior to your tour commencing and explore independently you will be advised of a time and location to meet the tour group. If booking pre tour accommodation with APT on an exclusive APT tour itinerary, you will receive both a transfer from the airport and on Day 1 of the tour to join your fellow guests. For Europe River cruises, the vessels are available for early boarding upon your arrival. Luggage can be stored at reception, and passengers have access to the main lounge. Cabin check in is available from 3pm.

  • How do I advise of Health/Mobility Requirements?

    Your Sales consultant will ask you for any requirements pertaining to your Health & Fitness during your booking process. A questionnaire may be required to be completed, which you will be advised.

  • How long has the tour company been trading?

    APT has been operating for over 95 years!

  • What are the luggage requirements?

    Each passenger is entitled to take one piece of luggage that does not exceed 160cm - length/height/width (63 inches), weight limit 20kgs (44 pounds). Additional fees may apply for additional luggage, and must be requested by time of final payment. Some safari / adventure tours may have further luggage restrictions where passengers need to pack down to a small soft duffle 10-15kg bag due to the smaller vehicles that are used whilst on tour, this includes Kimberley Wilderness Adventure, Outback Wilderness Adventures, Africa. Your Sales consultant can provide you with specific regulations.

  • Is tipping included on my APT tour?

    Tipping is included for all APT operated tours. There are a few activities whereby tipping is not included such as Tailor Made Holidays, Africa & South America's City Stays & Extensions, and the Northern Lights Adventure in North America.
