for Oudtshoorn after lunch.

As we head inland and over a pass the landscape changes drastically and we

enter the Little Karoo, a much dryer and hotter region. Oudtshoorn itself

became famous thanks to the trade in Ostrich feathers and is still, today,

the ostrich capital of the world.

Our Guest House is situated out of town in the tranquil rural Karoo village

of De Rust.

industry, which dates back to the 17th Century and was heavily influenced by

French Huguenots, produces some of the best wines in the world. We will have

the opportunity to taste some of these wines before continuing to Cape Town,

the Mother City.

Day 10 - 11 : Two Days Exploring Cape Town, Table Mountain, The Cape Peninsula And Simonstown Penguins.

Location: Cape Town, Table Mountain, Robben Island, Chapman's Peak, Hout Bay, Llandudno

Accommodation: Sweetest Guest House or similar

Accommodation Name: City Lodge Hotel Victoria & Alfred Waterfront (or similar)

Meals Included: Breakfast

We spend the next two days in and around Cape Town, Africa's most exciting

city. Our activities in Cape Town will, to some extent, be dictated by the

weather as visits to the top of Table Mountain, which has its own

micro-climate, are determined by cloud cover and wind. Because of this,

often, temperamental weather, it is best not to pre-book the cable car but to

just buy tickets on the spot (not included) Those who are staying longer in

Cape Town post-tour may opt to visit Table Mountain later if the weather

looks as though it may be better then.

There is also the option of visiting Robben Island on one of the days,

however we recommend you pre-book Robben Island with us before the trip (but

pay the tour leader locally).

On one of the days we head down the Cape Peninsula. We follow the Atlantic

Seaboard past the areas of Camps Bay, Llandudno and Hout Bay to the Cape

Point via Chapman's Peak drive, if it is open. The highlight of the day is

our visit to the famous Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, which covers an

area of 7680 hectares. The reserve is home to eland, bontebok, grysbok,

springbok, wildebeest, baboon and ostrich. Rugged cliffs, unspoilt beaches,

shipwrecks and beautiful flora are the main features of the reserve. We will

go on a walk through the reserve for approximately two hours. We first take a

walk to the old lighthouse for the panoramic views, before following the

pathway to the new lighthouse which offer spectacular cliff views. We then

follow the downhill path to the Cape of Good Hope. Once we leave the park we

stop at the former Royal Navy base at Simonstown and take time to visit the

resident penguin colony at Boulders Beach.

Day 12 : End Cape Town.

Location: Cape Town

Meals Included: Breakfast

Our final day of the trip we have the option of doing a township tour,

strolling along the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront or exploring various other

parts of Cape Town. Those on group flights will be transferred to the airport

this afternoon for their flight home, those on a land-only basis the tour

officially ends today.

unusual meats such as ostrich, kudu or eland. There are also some options for
vegetarians.

The water provided on this trip is safe and clean drinking water, normally
coming from bore-holes. It is not bottled water, however. If you would rather

Accommodation

We spend 11 nights in a range of hotels and guesthouses, each well located for our activities and to keep the drives between destinations relatively short. Properties are comfortable and many have fantastic views. The normal accommodations used on this trip can be found on the day-to-day itinerary; however, below are a couple of the notable places we stay.

De Rust: Housemartin Guest Lodge (nights 5-6)

In the small Karoo town of De Rust is the quaint Housemartin Guest Lodge. Owners Theresa and Jan personally welcome every Exodus group that comes to their home and they take great pride in making guests as comfortable as possible. The property has 12 rooms, each with a private veranda leading into the garden. There is also a swimming pool plus beautiful indoor and outdoor dining areas. The meals at the guest lodge are a particular highlight with seasonal ingredients sourced from local farms to create classic South African dishes.

Hermanus: Windsor Hotel (nights 7-8)

The 120-year-old Windsor Hotel in Hermanus sits opposite Walker Bay, one of the best whale-watching destinations in the world when southern right whales migrate to the bay to breed (July to November). Whale-watching is even possible from the comfort of the hotel restaurant. However, the location of the property is also ideal out of season with a central setting within town and quick access to the 7.5mi (12km) Hermanus Cliff Path.

Reviews from Travellers on this Tour

The title says it all

We arrived in Port Elizabeth and meet our tour lea

We arrived in Port Elizabeth and meet our tour leader., Andrew Lindsay. He was excellent, made everyone feel welcome and gave us a brief overview of our trip. During the next 11 days we had a great adventure. Starting with Addo Elephant park, followed by a superb Safari organised by Andrew. Everything during the trip was very well organised, Hermanus, Stellenbosch, Cape Town, Table Mountain, Robben Island, staying at some lovely places and having the knowledge of a South African guide was incredible. If I have any criticism, is that some of the accommodation was probably not 3/4 star as suggested. However, due to the enthusiasm and positivity of Andrew the holiday was a wonderful experience of South Africa's Garden Route.

Spectacular varied & educational experience travelling thro the Cape

This trip lived up to all expectations and beyond.

This trip lived up to all expectations and beyond. The amazing places visited, the friendliness of the people interacted with in each location (plus my fellow travellers on the bus), quality of the accommodation / food / transport / scheduled & additional trips, awe inspiring landscapes, wow moments up close with the varied wildlife. These were all fantastic and every experience was raised even higher by Justin's organisation, knowledge, humour, friendliness plus his openness and passion for showing off everything his country has to offer.

A Wonderful Introduction to South Africa

We have just returned from Cape Town and the Garde

We have just returned from Cape Town and the Garden Route and what a reluctant return it was. We are both "Senior Citizens", had never been in Africa before and had few pre- conceived ideas of what to expect. The whole trip was amazing from being met at Port Elizabeth by our guide JP and then our mini bus driver Jerome. They both did everything they could to ensure that we were enjoying ourselves, JP was full of suggestions as to any extra excursions, and then booked them for us. We were very glad that we had budgeted for such trips as the extra game Drive ( a truly wonderful experience), the Tsitsikamma Zip Lining and the boat based whale watching at Hermanus. The accommodation was all clean and comfortable if somewhat basic in a couple of places, the jewel of accommodation was Housemartin Guest Lodge in De Rust. Most of the accommodation had views to die for. JP was full of knowledge about history, the animals, birds, flora and fauna etc and was happy to talk about it all. At Storms River cabins he took some of us on a walk along part of the Otter Trail, strenuous it was and not for the unfit, but the waterfall we ended up at was worth it. It was things like this that we would have missed out on if it wasn't for him. On our final night in Cape Town JP suggested that we all go to Marcos African Restaurant with him and he would make the booking. If you like African music and dance don't miss this place. To us it was simply the very ultimate in special nights out and a superb ending to a superb trip. By the way, we are vegetarians and we ate very well indeed everywhere on the trip.

I see Caroline & Chris have already completed a review which has saved me writing anything as I whole heartedly agree with what they have submitted! This was my 6th trip with Exodus and it rated favourably with all the others. I think you can rely on consistency with Exodus. If you don't want to have to think about what you are going to do the next day or where you are going to eat or even what you need to wear on your feet then choose Exodus!

Fantastic Garden Route Tour

We have arrived back from this trip. From start to finish this was a wonderful tour. We started with wildlife, an exciting and close-up encounter with over 100 elephants at bath time at a water hole, many zebra, giraffe and antelope variations. The icing on the cake was a close encounter with rhino, and dinner time with the lions. That was just day one. Could it be as good for the rest of the trip? Oh yes. We had wonderful scenery, both land and sea side. We were educated on the history, politics and culture of the RSA by the wonderful Justin Barr, guide extraordinaire. His enthusiasm for his country was infectious and his knowledge very detailed. Highlights of the tour included; Hermanus, and the town of Derust, where we stayed at the beautiful House Martin Guest House, owned by Jan and Theresa, who were excellent hosts. The winelands and tasting at Delheims most enjoyable. Finally, to beautiful Cape Town where we travelled up Table Mountain and had the views of the bay despite early cloud. We had an emotional visit to Robben Island, guided by a former political prisoner, and experienced the horror and hope of a Township. Everything was perfect as far as we were concerned. A highly recommended  tour.
