Day 1: Dubrovnik To Elafiti Islands

Location: Dubrovnik to Elafiti Islands

Accommodation: Overnight yacht

Dobro Dosli! Welcome to Croatia. Your adventure begins in Dubrovnik with a group meeting at 3 pm. If you arrive early, why not take a self-paced walking tour of Dubrovnik – the undisputed jewel of the Dalmatian Coast. With the sparkling water of the Adriatic in the background, this picturesque, medieval city is full of character and perfect for wandering around on two feet (especially if you’re a Game of Thrones fan). After your meeting, you’ll head to the local supermarket to buy supplies for your trip, then board the yacht and sail the open waters of the Adriatic to the Elafiti Islands. Elafiti is made up of three main islands – Kolocep (known as the green island due to its 100 year old pine groves, carol-trees, olive groves and citrus trees), Lopud (this island has spectacular parks and beaches and is one of the best developed touristic islands in the Dubrovnik area) and Sipan (the largest of the island group with a long history full of stories and legends, considered one of the jewels of the area).

Day 2: Elafiti Islands To Mljet

Location: Elafiti Islands to Mljet

Accommodation: Overnight yacht

After breakfast onboard, set sail for the island of Mljet, stopping for a swim along the way. Legendary in ancient history as the island where the shipwrecked Odysseus lived for seven years, today the island is a haven of lush national park, forests and small villages. Since Greek sailors sought haven here from storms, the island has been inhabited by Illyrians, Romans, Slavs and Avars. In the 13th century the island was given to the Benedictine order who built a monastery in the middle of one of the island's western lakes – Veliko Jezero. When you arrive, perhaps rent a bike and cycle through the national park. Tonight, you could try the local wine – the fields and vineyards that dot the island are the foundation of the local economy, with Mljet's villagers producing wine and olive oil as they have been for hundreds of years.

Optional Activities:
-Mljet - Bike rental (per hour)
-Mljet - Mljet National Park Entrance fee

Day 3: Mljet To Korcula

Location: Mljet to Korcula

Accommodation: Overnight yacht

Sail north through the jewel-like waters to Korcula this morning via the Peljeski Channel. Stop along the way for a refreshing morning swim, then sail on. Greeks settled in Korcula in the 6th century BC, but the town was also occupied by the Romans, Slavs and then the Venetians between 1420 and 1797. Even Napoleon was ruler for a while! As a result of all these influences, Korcula has a cosmopolitan Old Town. Alongside the idyllic beaches, you’ll have plenty of options for your free time. Ask your leader for the best dinner recommendations for a good feed.

Day 4: Korcula To Hvar

Location: Korcula to Hvar

Accommodation: Overnight yacht

Make breakfast onboard the yacht this morning and then set sail for the day. Make a stop around Lovista or Scedro for a morning swim and then settle in for an afternoon of beach hopping. Enjoy seafood fresh from the day's catch and kick back with cocktails on the waterfront as you sail around the scenic islands. You’ll make your way slowly to Hvar, where you can wander around the towns, home to some wonderfully preserved Renaissance facades. If you like, hike past dramatic jagged limestone cliffs and undulating farms, ancient olive groves and fields of rosemary and lavender. There’s also an option to cross the island by car to Hvar Town – often known as the ‘San Tropez of Croatia’.

Day 5: Hvar To Vis

Location: Hvar to Vis

Accommodation: Overnight yacht

Today, you’ll cruise on to Vis – the furthest island from the mainland. Stop at the Pakleni Islands or Stoncica along the way for a swim. When you arrive, you can take an optional tour to learn about the island’s history – passing between Greek, Roman, Venetian, Napoleonic, Austrian and Italian hands. Visit nuclear fallout shelters, churches and vantage points with great views across the ocean. If you like, you can also take an optional winery tour and indulge in a few glasses of the local vino.

Optional Activities:
-Vis - Island tour
-Vis - Wine tour

Day 6: Vis To Brac

Location: Vis to Brac

Accommodation: Overnight yacht

After breakfast, bid farewell to Vis and set sail to sunny Brac – the largest island in central Dalmatia. On the way, you might stop in for a swim near Milna or the island of Solta. With its distinctly Mediterranean landscape, Brac is famous for the white stone mined from the island’s quarries – cladding buildings as historic as Diocletian’s Palace in Split and as iconic as the White House in Washington DC. Take a leisurely cruise along the coast, soaking up the sunshine and the scenery. Then, weigh anchor and go for a dip in the sea or snorkel and spot sea anemones, crabs, sea urchins and small fish.

Day 7: Brac To Split

Location: Brac to Split

Accommodation: Overnight yacht

In the morning, say goodbye to Brac and approach the palm-lined harbour of Split from its best side – framed by towering coastal mountains and the blue of the Adriatic. You’ll arrive in the city at approximately 3 pm, giving you time to explore the impressive ruins of Diocletian's Palace, Split's most imposing structure. Stroll the markets just outside the palace walls, then perhaps enjoy a final group dinner in this vibrant Croatian city to celebrate your sailing adventure!

Day 8: Split

Location: Split

After breakfast aboard the yacht, your trip will end around 10 am. There are no activities planned for today and you’re free to depart at any time.

*Please note that the sailing times listed above are a guide only and subject to change. They are dependent on weather and sailing conditions.

No meals are included on this tour

What's Not Included

  • International Travel

  • Tipping and Gratuities

Accommodation

  • This trip is accommodated entirely on board a yacht of between 48ft to 52ft. A typical yacht for 8 travellers is equipped with 4 double share cabins, 2/3 shared bathrooms and 2 showers. Our boats are real yacht’s and this is a real sailing trip. Yachts are designed to keep sleeping areas to the absolute minimum of space, while maximising common areas as much as possible.
  • Rooms are allocated on arrival by our skipper according to group composition, which means it is not possible to reserve or guarantee any specific berth or cabin. Single passengers will be paired up with another passenger of the same gender, which will mean sharing a double cabin with a double mattress. Everyone including the skipper shares the bathrooms on board. There is no twin share bedding on this yacht.
  • While not everyone may feel entirely comfortable living in such close quarters, those who are looking to revel in the adventure and exhilaration of an authentic sailing trip usually find any discomfort from cramped living conditions is more than made up for by the whole experience.
  • ADDITIONAL ACCOMMODATION:
  • Please note that the majority of our sailing trips start and/or finish at a marina or port. For most of our destinations, we can provide transfers between the airport/hotel and the port/marina. Please check the joining and finish point information in the trip notes for details.
  • ELECTRICITY:
  • While there should be electricity on board throughout your trip the voltage is likely to vary widely, from 12V to 220V, and when in port or moored we are dependent on the supply available. Please be aware that the supply may not be sufficient to power some electronic devices all the time and that you may need a voltage adapter or similar (such as portable inverter used in cars). On some trips it may be possible to charge devices ashore at restaurants or resorts, however this is not guaranteed.
  • WI-FI:
  • Please note that our sailing boats do not have Wi-Fi. You will be getting off the boat and visiting towns regularly so you will be able to connect with the outside world then.

Included Activities

    Transport

    • This is a sailing adventure so our time is spent on board a monohull yacht. You may be asked to assist on-deck, particularly when coming into or leaving port. No experience is necessary, but getting to know some 'sailing language' might help to get you into the spirit of the adventure.
    • Bow - front of the boat
    • Stern - rear of the boat
    • Port - left
    • Starboard - right
    • Deck - outside, upper area of the boat
    • Hull - the main part or body of the boat
    • Keel - part of the boat under water that keeps the boat stable and stops it capsizing
    • Mainsail - the large sail attached to the mast and boom
    • Mast - the big vertical pole that supports the mainsail
    • Boom - the big horizontal pole attached to the mainsail, coming off the rear of the mast (swing from side to side)
    • Jib, headsail, genoa, foresail - smaller sail near the front of the boat
    • Sheet - ropes used to control the sails
    • Booty - another word for pirate treasure
    • Lines - other ropes on the boat (ropes are never called ropes on yachts)
    • Spinnaker - large extra sail
    • Trim the sails - adjust the position of the sails when the wind changes strength or direction
    • Tiller or wheel or helm - used to steer the boat
    • Helmsman - person steering the boat
    • Running - sailing with the wind
    • Tack - turning the bow of the boat when sailing through the wind
    • Jibe - turning the stern of the boat when sailing through the wind
    • Figure-eight knot - the stopper: often used at the end of lines to stop them getting away.
    • Bowline (knot) - strong and dependable knot that is commonly used
    • Clove Hitch (knot) - not as secure it is often used to attach an object to a line

A small zodiac (dinghy) is used to transport passengers from the yacht to the mainland, with landings taking place at piers (dry landings) and on beaches (wet landings). Zodiacs can sometimes be awkward to climb in and out of, but a sense of humour and a can-do attitude is all you need.

This is an adventure on board a real yacht, which means living spaces, cabins, bathrooms and showers need to be shared with other passengers. Sleeping quarters can be relatively compact, but you will spend most of your time above board in the open air.

Please note that smooth sailing depends on the weather, so itinerary changes may occur at the last minute if the weather becomes unfavourable. You can trust your knowledgeable skipper to choose an alternative route or activity if any changes are made.

This was my first international solo trip, but I never felt “alone” - there was always someone to go shopping, hike, or grab a quick bite with. The itinerary was a great balance between organized activities, while still allowing free time for exploring. Each location was unique and charming in its own way. Spending the night in the holy city of Moulay Idriss and wandering the winding streets of Chefchaouen were especially memorable. Thank you Mustapha and Intrepid for an incredible adventure!

Amazing Guatemala and beyond tour with Intrepid

    13-Dec-2022

Did Guatemala and beyond trip in November 22. It was amazing, we were so well looked after by our guide Aura. She was very knowledgeable and during our bus trips she gave us the history of the 4 countries. The border crossings can be tricky but handled very well by our guide. We saw all the most interesting and beautiful places. The hotels were lovely comfortable colonial style. I will travel with intrepid again

    Wonderful Croatian tour

    02-Dec-2022

Our tour guide,Tamara, was the highlight of our Explore Croatia tour. She was knowledgeable, organized, and so kind and fun. Croatia is a beautiful country. I loved the people, the scenery, the food, the history. I hope to go back one day. Intrepid was perfect for me. There was group time and there was plenty of free time. It wasn’t a luxury tour but all of our accommodations were clean and safe. The dinner in Hvar was SO special!

Touring the beautiful North of Morocco I learned far more than I’d anticipated in this 9 day tour. Interesting sights to see, with knowledgeable local guides, this tour provides a great balance of exposure to a different culture with ample time for relaxation. Chefchaouen is an absolute highlight, & not a place many Morocco trips of this kind go to. Loved it!

    Essential Morocca

    21-Oct-2021

Essential Morocco was an absolute dream. Every single day had such informative walking tours and tours of local facilities. Whether it was dinner with a local family or visiting a pottery factory, I learned so much about Moroccan culture. The accommodations were safe and I felt secure the entire 11 days. This trip wouldn’t have been the same without one person. That person is Youssef. If you are coming to Morocco with Intrepid and you don’t request Youssef, you’re doing it wrong. Words cannot describe how incredible of a guide he is. There were 3 of us on our trip of 18-29 year olds and he made us all feel so welcome and safe all the time. Whether that is cracking jokes on long drives or giving us the itinerary for the next day, Youssef ensured we felt respected and seen.

From 1 January 2023, Intrepid will no longer require travellers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19.

However, we continue to strongly recommend that all travellers and leaders get vaccinated to protect themselves and other Specific proof of testing or vaccination may still be required by your destination or airline. Please ensure you check travel and entry requirements carefully.

This policy excludes all Polar trips and select adventure cruises, where testing and vaccination remains a requirement. Please refer to the Essential Trip Information of your chosen tour for more details.
